Edgar Allan Crow and the Runaway gang wanted to make sure you had some info about our upcoming classes.
First, we still have room in Dina Wakley’s first class when she comes June 8 & 9 — and the waiting lists for the other two aren’t all that long (and we’re looking at ways to expand the classroom’s capacity just a touch), so you may still be able to get into those as well. There is more detail on her classes if you click the “Classes” tab.
Second, we want to remind you that Kendra Krebs comes to Runaway pretty regularly — and she is offering her wonderful classes about watercoloring the Art Impressions way in both April and May. You can see find that information on the “Classes” tab as well.
Finally, Copic® artist and author Marianne Walker visited Runaway during our Copic® Color Celebration. And we jumped at the opportunity to have her come back and teach some techniques from her “Copic® Coloring Foundation” books. And you know where you can find that info? On the “Classes” tab, of course!

John Creighton Petersen comes to Runaway once again April 6-8!
John is bringing his unique talents back to Runaway with a new set of classes. He will be here from April 6-8, and he’ll be offering three classes, each of which provides its own unique flair!
Mixed Media Resin Jewelry with John Creighton Petersen
Friday, April 6 @ 6 – 9 pm Instructor: John Creighton Petersen Cost $75
Of course, John can’t come to Runaway without at least one jewelry class! And this is a wonderful one. Explore how to make stunning mixed media jewelry pieces by building color and texture with dimensional elements using the newest releases from ICE Resin®. In class you’ll create two pieces of jewelry – a layered domino and a textured bezel. All supplies are included for this class, including necklace chains, but you are welcome to bring your favorite small charms/embellishments that you may want to use to customize your product.

Saturday, April 7 @ 10 am – 6 pm Instructor: John Creighton Petersen Cost $100
After this class, your next mixed media project will never be the same! Learn how to build amazing layers of texture and color, including faux encaustic techniques using a variety of products from Finnabair/Prima®. Turn found objects into amazing embellishments and incorporate them into your complete canvas. Student supplies: paintbrushes, palette knives, scissors, craft knife, background images (copies of photos, printed papers, etc.), favorite large format stencils (optional), found objects/embellishments.

Mix your love of bookmaking with the art of mixed media to create this one-of-a-kind journal! Create layers of texture and color with the newest releases from Finnabair/Prima® – and learn new ways to use your favorite products as well. All of the techniques used in the class can easily be adapted to almost any surface. Student supplies: paintbrushes, palette knives, scissors, craft knife, favorite large format stencils (optional), found objects/embellishments.

If you haven’t been to visit Runaway in the past few weeks (or even in the past few days), you’ll want to know that owner Christy Wood’s time at the Creativation Trade Show was definitely time well spent. “I bought four times as much as I did last year,” she said as she and her staff continue to unpack boxes and get new product ready for display and sale. “Because I could!” And because she knew that her customers would love the new products from Tim Holz, Art Impressions, Jane Davenport, Lawn Fawn, and Copic, just to name a few!

Just wanted to remind you again about the opportunity to join “Creative JumpStart” — a series of mixed media instructional videos by different artists — and take a special Runaway workshop to get the most out of the opportunity!
When Nathalie Kalbach was here in December, she told us about Creative JumpStart, a series of videos by different mixed media artists. Below is the link to Nathalie’s website and information about Creative JumpStart 2018.

Description from Nat’s website: “Creative JumpStart is a one-of-a-kind community event to jumpstart your creativity in 2018. The Theme this year is “Now We’re Cooking: Mixed Media Art Recipes”. We’re heading into the kitchen of creativity for this one: the Mixed Media studio! Join our crew of Mixed Media Artists and Crafters as they grab their aprons, favorite tools of the trade, and share with their own original recipes for a mixed media masterpiece.”
I will be leading a bi-monthly gathering, where we have permission to project a couple of the videos on our projector. You will need to sign up and be able to show that you did signup for Creative JumpStart by showing me your email receipt. The cost will be $8 per person for 3 hours.
We will watch 1 or 2 of the videos, depending on their difficulty. I will walk us through the techniques demonstrated on the video. Runaway will provide craft mats, water bins, spray bottles, stamps, ink pads, and scissors. You will bring 1-3 art journals and your art journaling supplies. This is a very special opportunity that Nathalie has offered us to view videos and work together. Let’s get inspired and create some beautiful art together!
